The retro uploader doesn’t use flash, so while the upload still happens over HTTP , your browser is responsible for uploading the file. It doesn’t look like it, but the upload button is in fact a standard <input type="file" />.

We’re still planning an FTP (probably) based uploader too.

I guess blaming Flash is the easy way out. Gmail uses Flash and I’ve never had to re-upload a single time.
