Hi everyone. I’m new here so please bare with me. I was wondering if there were restrictions to how exclusive authors can use their own items in their own personal projects (as in their own blog, website, painting…etc).

As an example, if you submitted a Site template or a business card template, do you get to use that as your own site templates or your own business card?

I think it will be unethical (at least) to sell it an item to someone else, as you sign a exclusivity contract with envato, but using for yourself where could be the problem?

I’m not over thinking it. You can’t buy your own items unless you create a separate account to do that. Now that, IMO , would be a bit unethical.

+1 very simple! If you use it for your client, you are buying for your client (the licence belongs to them). Why not a license for your own project if purchased? Still the staff’s answer could be helpful.

“Envato takes copyright violation very seriously. If we discover that a work has violated copyright we will ban the author from the Envato Marketplaces, freeze any funds made from the sale of that work and in some cases the injured party will take legal action against you – so make sure you know the rules!”

Only the copyright holder of a work may do the following: * Make copies of the work and distribute them. * Create derivative works or alter the work in any way. * Sell the work in either it’s original version or in an altered form. * Grant or sell licenses to use the work.

It sounds like the author is the copyright holder

You can’t buy your own products finsta, and yes you CAN use your own items but only in personal works, this has been discused.

It has? I probably haven’t done enough search then (although I did search). Still, I would appreciate a staff response to the topic.

It’s always good to ask when it comes to copyright and copyright related issues. I prefer to be 100% sure.

This is what I don’t get…

Lets say Jigowatt is freelancing with bob. And bob wants a contact form.

Can Jigowatt use his Contact Form on that project?

Or is it more ethical for him to rewrite the entire contact form functions.
