I’ve also mentioned before an Envato standard ‘on holiday’ banner when we could activate, I guess that would reduce the chances of abuse of a system like this and give buyers a consistent experience as to what happens if an author is marked as ‘on holiday’.

I have to disagree with you. Most of the automatic replies nowadays have some sort of a “This is an automated response…” message within, which clearly gives the idea to the user that the reply was generated by a machine, and not a human being. Therefore, if you state your usual response times in the canned reply, besides the above mentioned message, then I do not see a reason why any of your users would expect quicker responses from you.

I have to disagree with you. Therefore, if you state your usual response times in the canned reply, besides the above mentioned message, then I do not see a reason why any of your users would expect quicker responses from you.

What if the auto reply doesn’t contain message about response time? or even worse, mention a false response time (this is what we recently see as complaints from buyers – false promises about support on item description page).

We all should respect the fact that – we declare support is not mandatory. In such case, implementing a global solution for support would add conflict – false beliefs. Item comment section is for all kind of “authors”, both who supports and who doesn’t support. The auto responses are fair only on authors own forum – not here.

Guys thanks for your comments, i think it’’s goint too much in details, the suggestion is simply about having the possibility to add an automatic reply when you are absent.

It’s simply better that buyers get notified than not receiving any message at all

Anyone else up for this feature that would make our work on ThemeForest easier?

It’s always a pain having to constantly redirect the users to the support forum, which is even more magnified when you are away from your computer, be it on a vacation, or any other sort of absence, where you can’t keep track of the comments on TF in a timely manner.
