@KingDog, I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated (and maybe even post about how much my travels are costing and how my GR account could be paying for it?) :D

@DarkstarDesigns, could you recommend anywhere good to stay in Bangkok on arrival?

@Ivor, yes! I was showing my friends the pictures you showed me of where you live the other day and it was a unanimous yes haha!

The only thing would be the sort of budget your looking for as the place i stayed was very expensive very nice but like staying in Mayfair in London.

if you say what you looking to spend a night i can recommend one, can give you advice on travel round bangkok to keep it cheap!

@Vervethemes, I have heard many good reviews on travelling India, it sounds an incredibly multicultural and diverse country. A few of my friends have visited Mumbai so I guess I will be doing too! :)

@Proteusnet, thanks for the tips! My friends and I would love to travel everywhere and I guess we’ll have to do it as you suggest, go and try countries, if we like them stay for a while, if not, skedaddle! What is the best country you have travelled?

@Rickyloca & @LuisFaus, well, I’m there from Monday next week so I’d love some pointers :D We’ve no accommodation booked for when we arrive, we figured (and have been told by various people) to just head straight for Khaosan Road and we’ll easily be able to find somewhere to rest for a couple days, would you agree? Or would you recommend going somewhere else?

RE: the coffee, sounds great to me! Probably good to give me a couple of days to get settled, but sure let’s do it!

@nCrafts haha yeah man! I hope the next few years to be filled with those picturesque beaches and sea views!

@Nutzumi, damn, you’ve rattled my plan for Bangkok!

@Brolufthi, that sounds good to me! I need to make it my mission to never turn down a coffee or meeting with someone on this trip, who know’s what opportunities could be missed :D

@ShermanJackson, would love to take you up on that offer! :D

@FlashEdge, well I’m not lucky enough to not need to work, I’ll be travelling with my laptop so I can run my online biz and get my mojo back for uploading items here. I suppose in that sense, we’re all lucky to have the ability and opportunity to generate good passive income online right!?

@DarkstarDesigns, I’d love to keep it cheap, of course, but at least to begin with, whilst travelling SEA, I doubt most places would be as expensive as living in the UK, right?

@Adam: Let me boast about Calcutta a little bit,

Transportation is way cheaper.

Food is WAYYYY BETTER and we can boast of a wide variety of cuisines, our junk food is out if this world :)

The night club scene may not be as good as Mumbai but it’s a 8/10 here.

Roads have improved.

Staying in a motel or a hotel is also cheaper. Besides, if you come to Calcutta, I can arrange for you to stay at a Baptist Mission Guest House, their rates are reasonable, the guest house is centrally located.

What else do you need? Go to Mumbai but Calcutta is a must visit.

I really wanna visit Calcutta. I’ve had enough of these jam-packed Mumbai locals and vada pavs. And living here is anything but cheap. Rents are off the roof (compared to other Indian cities). And it’s very very difficult to come across people who appreciate art and literature :(

Let’s hope my future CC earnings permit me a backpacking tour :impatient:

I did a 3 month trip around SE Asia last year and it kicked ass! Started in Thailand, then Cambodia, back up through northern Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore then the southern part of Thailand.

I wouldn’t know what to suggest as the trip has to be your own, a couple of pieces of advice I would give though…

If you have noise cancelling headphones, take them. Most buses around Cambodia and Laos (there’s no trains) play offensively loud music through broken speakers and on a 9 hour journey… well, not fun.

Also, take an ipad or other tablet computer. Most hotels/hostels/cafes have free wifi and for us it was the perfect way to check reviews, prebook etc. hotels in our next destination via agoda and tripadvisor. A lot of people we saw took laptops but the extra weight of the charger and transformer makes that a bad idea.

I made kind of a video blog of my trip using a harinezumi camera. There’s no dialogue but it might give you a preview of places you might want to see whilst on your trip.

https://vimeo.com/channels/harinezumingmylife/page:5

(There’s a few other vids of stuff in this channel but you will easily spot the SEAsia ones)

Lastly, have fun you lucky lucky son of a … I am so so jealous.

@quickandeasy Khao San Rd, you love it or you hate it! I would recommend it only if you ar really into a backpacker experience, it’s good fun, lot of booze 24/7, party, noise and cheap accommodation. Keep in mind that Khao San Rd. is not Bangkok and Bangkok is not Thailand :) Since is full of backpackers prices are actually even higher than normal, and watch out from taxi driver that normally will charge you more in that area (they know that in Khao San is full of unexperienced people). From the airport go on top floor at the arrivals and get a cab from there and just say Khao San Rd, METER ONLY, if they refuse to use the meter get another cab (you will also have to pay the highway). You might get to khao san with roughly 10£ in 40min+ drive. Settle there, relax, have a few Chang beers, then we organize the Coffe OR a wisky&cokee&redbull bucket, thay style :)

Chiang Mai is awesome. I’ve been there several times (for more than 1.5 years total).

I created a Google map: https://maps.google.se/maps/ms?hl=sv&gl=se&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=209506229528609757551.0004d3e19f703a76a1c35

Currenty it only contains coordinates to fast food restaurant. It’s an auto mechanic’s shop by day and street food restuarant by night. It sounds a bit strange but it’s probably the place I miss most about Chiang Mai – the food is great!

I can add some other tips if you are interested.

How much are you planning to work during your trip?
