Standalone Outlook is still the most powerful if you ask me. Thunderbird is great freeware but if your looking for some serious email management I would go with Outlook.
Have been using Outlook deeply for years, moved to Thunderbird 2 years ago. Not sure which features you point out, but i think TB goes far away on all its functionalities. Is a great product, freeware or not.

You would love Thunderbird as I do
. Outlook is classic, but Thunderbird is fresh 
I changed from Thunderbird to TrulyMail a couple of years ago and really like that TrulyMail bundles in all the functionality I used to need to use add-ins for. I’m very happy.
Maybe this one is not desktop email client, does anybody here already try Alto, new web-based email client from AOL? I’m so curious to try that but haven’t got reply for invitation yet.

I think it’s safe to say any mail product from AOL is going to suck.

aol mail sucks all together
About 15 years with Outlook and still love it
