Hi there,
Just wondering what you all suggest when it comes to mastering tracks of a rock song.
I just purchased T-Racks 3 and I’m getting familiar with it, but I’m just not liking the work flow that comes along with it. I’d like to be able to master within pro tools if possible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I use waves 7 bundle most of the time for mastering but I don’t know if thats working for pro tools. Another great plugin is the Flux solera II. But in my opinion, to get the best masters you need to get out of the computer and softwares and use some outboards to get the analog feel of the sound. Most mastering studios I know of use pyramix software for handling of the sound and then all sound manipulation is done from outboards. Thats off course another price range. So my recommendation is to use a good multi band EQ of your choice and some good compressor like Solera and finally a good limiter to maximize the volume.
With that said you could do the mastering right in Pro tools with some plugins, no extra software needed
Unfortunately, I don’t have the money nor the rack space for more external hardware to master with. Especially because I just spent $3,000 on a vintage Microphone Pre-Amp Rack Unite.
I’d like to use software that is going to really give me good sound but loud. You know loud isn’t always the answer, but I’d like my tracks to be as loud as they can be without damaging the way they sound.
I use a UAD DSP accelerator card (Universal Audio) for signal processing. For mastering I use the Precision EQ PlugIn and the Precision Multiband PlugIn! These tools are really awesome, they supply a pretty analogue feel to the sound while achieving the contemporary loudness depending on personal taste.
My suggestion is therefore: UAD Mastering It’s worth to check it out!
cheers,
Ulf

Thanks brother!
Has anyone tried t-racks though? Is it worth it?
JJP plugins by waves are essential for my mixes, idk about mastering though.
http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=7306I can highly recommend the Nomad Factory tools. http://www.nomadfactory.com/ Especially the Analog Mastering Tools. Worth every penny imho.
Interesting link, thesecession! Didn’t know that a copy of this awesome tools UAD Fairchild 670 & co. exist! Well, I know that the UAD fairchild and the Pultec are outstanding PlugIns, would like to hear the Waves version! The price is really attractive as the UAD solution is definetely more expensive!

For Rock/Pop I recommend JJP Plugins as well.
For Hip-Hop I recommend the Maserati Bundle, I own it and love it. The Maserati Vocal Plug-in is great as well for all genres of music.
