blogger: adding gadgets to my edited template

Hi There. I have no problem editing the html code to change the template for my blogger page however i don’t know how to make some of the new divs i have added available in the layout > page elements section. I want to be able to add widgets to the new areas i have made. But can’t get the new content to appear were you Add and Arrange Page Elements. Were do I need to add code for this to appear?

I think i have found some info about this. it looks like adding the relevant tags will fix my problem
