I get blue screen crashes on my computer, with the message “dumping physical memory to disk.” I guess it’s a memory fault? I replaced one of the memory units a while ago and it seemed to help for a while. Is there any chance if I replace the other one it will fix the problem?

Cheers :)

hi, dumping physical memory to disk is something that windows does on every bluescreen. That is not the errorcode. The errorcode looks something like this 0×00000007F

Windows keeps an errorlog where you can review those errorcodes after you restarted your computer.

As I said, the conclusion that it has soemthing to do with the memory was wrong, but that might still be the problem. First, look at the errorcode and do a google search on that. This way we can narrow down the problem.

I had some bluescreen problems myself on my new workstation sometimes when I accessed my network drive. Running windows update did fix that problem.

this may happen for various reasons. sometime is some driver fault, others some component is broken, and some time two components are in conflict one with the other for some arcane reason.

I’ve got some crashes on the laptop because I was using the windows power consumption option instead of the software made by the laptop manufacture.

did you installed some new piece of hardware recently, new mp3 or phone attached to the usb?

you can clean the memory dumps files using ccleaner

I had the same problem recently. During a process of elimination, I discovered it was a midi cable plugged into a usb hub that was causing the issues. I plugged the cable directly into the pc and updated the driver. So far, no blue screen anymore.

Cheers guys, so far I’ve unplugged a smartphone and a memory card, and taken out the older memory unit. Will see how that goes. It hasn’t crashed again so I haven’t taken note of the STOP code yet.

More disturbingly, twice today it’s just crashed with a black screen, and the fan starts going stronger. So I think there’s an unrelated over heating hardware issue. I just cleaned some dust out of the fan, maybe that will help. :D

Now is a good time to back everything up. Sounds like the power supply unit is on its way out. If it goes, it will fizzle out your hard drive too. Just a precaution. :)

I just remembered, I have another strange technical issue. On my phone, images on Envato show up broken. It doesn’t happen with other websites, in fact images on my profile page that are hosted elsewhere show up fine. But images hosted on Envato are broken. Any idea what’s causing that?

What are you doing before the blue screen appears? It may be a clue.

When I am using web browser and rendering with mental ray its almost sure that blue screen will appear in any second :)

Or sometimes I get a blue screen when I turn off and turn on the monitor while mental ray rendering. Any other renderer works fine :)

I have even replaced the graphic card, got extra memory and good cooling but it didn’t help.

I think it might be something with the mainboard.

As You see reasons are very different :)
