Hey everyone!

I am new to Flash and am enjoying the animation part of it…. now it’s down to business. I need to learn actionscript and quick! I have some very specific jobs coming up, but I figured an all-around actionscript book would help out.

This is the place to ask – what do you recommend for us beginners?

Thanks!

Kelly

If you are new to flash, I’d suggest to study as3 instead of as2, as it’s a step you will have to do sooner or later :)

This is a very good book about animation:

I’d suggest this one:

http://www.amazon.com/ActionScript-Flash-MX-Definitive-Second/dp/059600396X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201656836&sr=1-3

It’s a good introduction for non-programmers. It’s the first programming book I read, actually.

The book itself is big but the learning aspect only takes up 1/3, the rest is reference (which is kind of duplicated in Flash’s own help these days).

After you’ve read that I’d recommend you progress on to this:

http://www.amazon.com/Essential-ActionScript-2-0-Colin-Moock/dp/0596006527/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

It introduces all the 2.0 specific ‘enhancements’. To jump straight into this book or other 2.0 specific titles would be overwhelming, especially if you haven’t done any programming before.

I also recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-ActionScript-2-0-Colin-Moock/dp/0596006527/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

because when you will want to learn AS3 then again Essential-ActionScript-3-0-Colin-Moock wil be best best to learn.
