I make handmade soap and I am attempting my very first web site. I have chosen the ‘Handmade’ theme. The person who created my logo was kind enough to load the theme onto my WordPress Blue Host site. She also loaded the logo at the top of the main page. So now I’m trying to figure out how to set the site up and I am lost.

Here is what the Handmade theme is supposed to look like: http://themeforest.net/item/handmade-personal-wordpress-blogging-theme/full_screen_preview/1130466, but here is how mine looks as of today http://www.theenchantedbath.com/

Can anyone tell me (in very simple terms) how to do these things:

1. How can I remove the yellow, squiggly lines from the top right of the screen (where the tagline used to be? Someone mentioned ‘a quick CSS tweak’, but I don’t even know what CSS means.

2. I tried to changed the background color, but the background stays the same. Why doesn’t it change?

3. No pictures are showing up on the front page, even though I have uploaded a lot of pics to the media library. How can I get them to show up?

4. My logo is pushing the picture area and tabs too far down the page. Anyone have an idea of how I could better display it?

5. Can I put my company name (The Enchanted Bath) where the ‘Handmade’ script is now? If so, how would I do that?

Thank you so much to anyone who takes time to answer my questions! I really have no idea what I’m doing.

Linda

And how do I make this thing go away “URL: http://goo.gl/bgspE"? It’s just hanging out in the middle of my page making me crazy.

Also, does the Handmade theme not allow for sub menus under the main menu tabs? I have been trying to figure out how to make sub menus but I can’t seem to create any. Maybe I’m just not looking in the correct place on the menu board . . . ?

Hello Linda,

most of the things you asked are very easy to accomplish but very complicated to explain via the forum especially without seeing the actual code and backend of the theme. Your best bet would be to email the author of the theme about them or hire someone to do those things for you, there are a lot of talented people in this forum who are happy to help for pretty reasonable prices.

Thanks, squaredWeb, I appreciate your response. I’ll see if I can figure out who created the theme. If not, how would I go about finding someone to help me? Is there a specific area of the forums where I’m allowed to post a request for someone to assist me for a a (hopefully) reasonable price?

Thanks again!

OrganicBeeMedia – Thanks. I have emailed the author but I’m wondering how long it will take to get a response. I have been playing around with my site and with this theme for hours and I just don’t understand why this is so difficult. I thought Word Press blogging was supposed to be easy, but I cannot even get the blogging feature to work on my Handmade theme, much less the pictures and everything else. Very, very frustrating.

I need answers right away so I tried to register with Obox so that I could post on that forum as you suggested to some people above. But I can’t even register! No matter what email address I try to sign up with, I get an error message that says I need to ‘enter a valid email address’.

So to recap, I am having trouble with the Handmade theme, I need help right away, I can’t reach the author of the theme, and I can’t create an Obox account to post on their forums to try to get help.

In addition to the questions I’ve already posted here and on the ThemeForest forum, I just now ran into another problem that seems to be common with this theme. When the Handmade theme instructions say ‘Portfolio’, do they actually mean ‘Gallery’? I cannot find the word ‘Portfolio’ anywhere on my dashboard, so how can I follow the directions for creating a ‘Portfolio’ if the instructions are telling me to find something that does not seem to exist?

Under “Creating a Portfolio Page”, the instructions say ”. . . select the Portfolio List option which is on the right hand side under Page Attributes-Templates”. But there is no ‘Portfolion List Option’ on the right hand side under Templates. There is only Default Template, Archives, Full Page, Gallery List, and Widgetized Page. This is just one example of the problems I am having in trying to follow your instructions.

Also, I cannot change the order of the tabs on the home page. I go into the area to change the order of the tabs, I input a different number, but the order of the tabs doesn’t change.

I was so excited to buy this really cute theme but I am beginning to regret this purchase

Well Linda,

Sorry to hear some of the issues you are having with your theme. Unfortunately, using Wordpress isn’t as easy as editing a word document file.

Especially, as the customization you require need changes to the code.

If you can’t fix your errors with the author you can send me an email and I will be able to do this for a reasonable price if you have a paypal account?
