If you don’t need retina, or you own an iPhone with a retina display, I for one, highly recommend the iPad Mini! Transport and size is very important for me and the iPad is just to big!
Also, in my humble opinion I would wait for the release of the new iPad Mini, that should happen quite soon! You risk overpaying for it considering Apple drops prices once they release a new gadget!

I use my iPad 2 32GB for nearly everthing day-to-day. It plays a big part in my studio too as it acts as a control surface where I ca control all of my plugins and levels through it.
But for general use its great also, I always have it hooked up playing music, recipes while cooking and watching TV.
As for the Mini, I have not used it and it would be too small for what I use it for in the studio.
