I did a very small job for a prominent social marketer whose job is to speak at conferences on LinkedIn networking. He came to me in a panic about fixing his website css in time for an influx of visitors. Well, I did an hour of work, fixed his site, he promised to pay and (you can guess)...dropped of the planet. I invoiced him and emailed and he won’t reply.
My question is this: since he’s dishonest, should I
1. let other people know so they don’t waste their time with this guy? Isn’t that what LinkedIn recommendations are for? To let people know what it’s like to work for/with someone?
2. He’s got 20,000 Twitter followers, should I call him out on Twitter?
3. Or should I tell him that I’ll accept a recommendation from him in lieu of payment?
4. Or should I forget it altogether?
What advice do you have?
let the world know! why would you keep his/her back?!
Tell everyone who’ll listen.
If he wants to maintain his reputation, you should hear back from him re: payment shortly …

DO IT !
How long has it been since you’ve sent the invoice? If it hasn’t been too long I would probably wait and send him a few more follow ups. He could be overloaded with post conference stuff.
Don’t go spamming his website or anything of that nature. Remain professional and spread the word about his wrong doings.

Before doing something rash and accusatory, asking around to see if he hasn’t gone somewhere or has some personal issue might be a good idea. I don’t know but I think it’s best not to jump the gun and assume it’s dishonesty. Calling anyone out is hardly the best answer because it can backfire, especially if one is mistaken.
I’m not saying it’s impossible that you’re being shrugged off, but a bit of patience and persistence first would yield better results I think.

I agree. Maybe the man is swamped, maybe there is something else going on. Wait just a bit longer send some more invoices ask around and see what happens.

Or you could simply freak out! it’s way more fun!
No, just kidding. +1

Bummer man. Did you get anything in writing? I won’t even start work unless a contract is signed by both parties and some kind of deposit is made.
