If I was to make a theme can it require that the user installs advanced custom fields?

I’d like to make use of the repeater field function (which the license allows you to include in themes) but just wondered if this is against any rules?

I don’t know the official answer, but in my opinion that should not be allowed.

Every theme should work without any plugin. It migh not have the full functionality without certain plugins and that is ok, but to disable the theme without the plugin is not.

Thanks – I’d like to get an official answer. I think using advanced custom fields is a much more reliable and future proof way of using custom fields so I’d like to hear some more views on this.
