I think it’s possible with an android device but not with an iPhone, is this true ; thanks a lot for all your replies

Yes, I have HTC One X and I can connect with WiFi on internet without SIM card, but for iDevices, I do not know…

Thanks a lot Harmonikas , it is good to know.. 
The iPhone can connect to the Internet via wifi without needing a SIM card. I had an old iPhone around the house doing this.
The phone might need to be activated first though.
