Can authors link heir demo to paid download ?

Noted a author on codecanyon, is linking his demos to apple app store,, where users are charged .99c to test the demo.

Is this allowed ?

I can’t find any reasons as why it wouldn’t be allowed. The author is not forcing anyone to buy the app. Maybe that is an actual live app which he/she built using the framework being sold here.
