I’ve noticed that a few authors have used animated gifs in their item descriptions and “Homepage Image” on their profiles.

Is that still available for authors? Or is it only available for authors with higher seniority? I’ve tried putting animated gifs in these things and they just simply don’t work for me and I’m not sure if I’m just simply doing something wrong or if I’m not able to in general.

An example to give you better idea of what I might want to try is to make a sprite sheet for some kind of animation and then have an example of that animation in action in the item description, or would I be able to do that directly in the preview image?

Basically what I’m asking is if I can use animated gifs and what are all that different places I can use them?

Hi Xiox,
You can use animated gif in the item description, not in the preview images or thumbnails. to do so you have to host them outside of envato, on your website or with a service like imageshack and then link them in your item description with html tag like this:

11 MB omg. I’m sure there is stuff to learn from all those animated gifs flying around the internet. Ot at least only size the gif to the really animated part, the rest can be made up of differently saved slices.

Thanks for the help, guys.

So from what I understand now, I am only able to use gifs in the item description and forum posts, correct? Or are there other places on Envato that I can use them?

Nope. They used to allow them in profile thumbnail but later it was disabled.
