I second this. Why there is a captcha on the LOGIN page is beyond me…

+100000, I always have to try at least 2/3 times.

If a website like paypal can do this without captcha why can’t TF?

I would easily pay a couple of hundred bucks if I never had to fill in one of those stupid captcha things ever again. And then I could donate a couple of hundred bucks more so they could pay someone else to read those stupid old books… Heck, I’d rather listen to a part of a Justin Bieber song and then have to write down the lyrics every time.

Lol, is it that bad? :D

I also dislike “reCAPTCHA”. Other’s are usually OK but their’s is just annoying. I use a CAPTCHA on my site that is self hosted and it works great. I use it on my themes too and have never heard a complaint. You can see an example use here: http://para.llel.us/#Contact

It generates the words with GD Library and lets me control everything, including text and background colors, fonts, word length, language and even dictionary lists to generate the challenges. It’s easy to setup and it doesn’t have insanely hard to read words or fonts (because I tell it not to). If Envato wants a copy just let me know and I’ll send you the the code.

CAPTCHA is on fine on registration but not on a login page. It makes me less likely to logout (to avoid entering the CAPTCHA when I’m logging back in) and this is a bigger security risk.

Go on, just turn it off!

I never heard of a website using a captcha for a login page. I don’t even see the point. If you guys think a captcha system is needed (which I don’t think there is a valid reason) then at least make the captcha’s readable by humans. I usually have to refresh the captcha an average 4 times.

I can’t think of another website that uses captchas for login. Not Facebook, Amazon, iStockPhoto, etc.

That’s because we really really really hate spammers! We still get them, but imagine what you’d get if there wouldn’t be a captcha. Further more, the chances of you ” accidentally getting ” the password by trying so many times your keyboard breaks are reduced due to the fact that the captcha is so hard to read! You login once, problem solved! :)
