In my view, your question is not quite correct. It all starts with a sketch, ideas, rough melodies … and depending on the design that you intend to write, select tools.

Hej, you can find here a LOT of great examples. Try to listen them, then you’ll get some idea for sure. If your time is limitetd, use/make some trailer risers, strings staccatos, muted brass, some incoming effects, impacts, etc…

If you have ProjectSam’s Symphobia 1 or 2 then you’re halfway there. There’s lots of cool stuff from SampleLogic that can help. I can also highly recommend Sonokinetic’s Orchestra Tutti library. It adds a lot of texture and fx and augments Symphobia 1&2 beautifully. Really depends on the type of horror score you’re writing though. You can create that music with many approaches. Some waterphone never goes astray too – lots of options for that. Good luck!

If you get Symphobia 1 & 2 you will have most bases covered. These libraries are amazing and yes they are for Kontakt.
