This is a temporary policy, if I remember correctly; I can’t provide much information either. I’ll ask Jarel to chime in this thread though.Just so you know Envato has a legal department with a high qualified lawyer specialized in IP & Copyright so I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing.
I don’t know what’s all the fuss about this — sure it’s a bit of a pain — but you just need to place an empty folder called ‘Fonts’ and write in the docs where they can download and where to paste the fonts files.
All the fuss is about buyers who now have to go thru downloading something else that should already be included (if it’s license allows) – a lot of buyers don’t even know what FTP is and authors are receiving emails asking why fonts are not working, why they have to download something else and rating items low because they think it’s broken, not to mention it’s a bad experience for your customers here on ThemeForest…

mikedidthis saidThis is about license. Font’s license is not mentioned: “Fontello’s code (all files, except fonts) is distributed under MIT license.” https://github.com/fontello/fontello#readme
I currently use http://fontello.com to custom build my ‘icon’ fonts. All fonts are allowed to be included with proper credits. Credits are given in my documentation.
Yep that is true. Good spot.

My theme was soft rejected for including Font Awesome and Bebas Neue (had to instruct buyers how to install them instead), and both are appropriately licensed.
itsmattadams saidThat also happened to my theme. But what is going to be with social icons? Are we going to sell empty icons without font?

i’m imagining, I’ll tell to my buyers: 1. Go to: http://fontello.com/ 2. Select the icons that you want 3. Download them. 4. Open your FTP client app, e.g: http://filezilla-project.org/ 5. Connect to your server (required: username, password..ect) 6. Upload the fonts (some files here) to your theme folder. Mytheme/fonts/ABC 7. ....

Thanks for keeping us posted, looking forward to some hopefully compromising news.
Can you tell us how long it will take to get an answer?
^ I suppose no, but keep it alive will be enough.
I think including Font Awesome shouldn’t be a problem?

It’s licensed CC by 3.0 and you are free to share (copy & distribute) and remix as long as you attribute. I guess it’s enough to attribute in item description and documentation.
