Hello!

As you all know Themeforest is having right now a Tumblr Theme contest. I tried my hand first time on a Tumblr theme and got rejected as I imagined it would go. I would be very happy if anyone has some guidelines how to improve the theme, especially from veteran Tumblr themers.

Here is the link – Baroness

Thank you very much!
Kris

Hello!

Not a veteran, but here are my thoughts.

Background: Lack of contrast between the posts background and the page background. Using #f0f0f0 improves it: http://i.imgur.com/OVBBm.png

Post types: Great you have all the post types in, add support for Ask / Submit

Social Links: Again, great you have the twitter feed in there, but some social icons or links would be handy.

General: There are a few themes already like yours in the Tumblr category: http://themeforest.net/item/ultramnml-clean-responsive-tumblr-theme/2969518 & http://themeforest.net/item/simplicitheme-blog-template-for-tumblr/1939226. Both are great examples of doing a theme correctly.

The thing that sets these apart from your own, is they are responsive, and include a few more features. Personally I would try and take the theme in a slightly different direction to make it stand out, and look at making it responsive.

Hope that helps.

Mike your themes are really great. Thank you for you thorough feedback, value it very much. You should definitely make something for the contest if you have time.

Thanks, but they are no big thing.

The key is to keep going, and look at taking what you have to the next level :)
