Scenario: I build websites for clients. Lets assume I have shown them how to do a backup and then update a theme. Do I have to download the theme from themeforest each time it is updated and either update clients site myself or pass the theme onto them? Is there a way that I can allow them to download the theme files directly from themeforest?
They are downloaded from ThemeForest – easiest way (and proper way for anyone doing this for clients I think) is to create a new account to purchase their theme – then pass the credentials on to them. They will then always have access to support from the author, file updates etc in case they part ways with you at some point.
also note you should be using a child theme(if its WordPress) to do any customization so when they update it wont completely break your changes
I have done the child theme before but the problem I ran into there was that I always got a message in the WP-Admin saying there was an update required and to update the theme I had to activate the main theme, update it, then activate child theme, and even then it was saying I needed to update it.
I think if the site is running just fine, don’t update the theme all the time. Except when there’s some trouble with a bug that’s been fixed in an update.
