I have seen a couple of themeforest files that include codecanyon files in there themeforest files for free, but noticed that these authors are not the authors of the codecanyon files, i have asked support about this but i never get any follow ups about these questions.

So whats up with this, have the rules changed?

I dont think its fair to included other peoples stuff to increase the worth of a file(unless its your own stuff)

Maybe they’ve bought an extended license for those codecanyon items you mentioned?

No, if you buy an extended license for a script you’re allowed to include it into a “larger” project – for example a theme for sale on themeforest:

A jQuery slider from CodeCanyon could be used in a theme for sale.

Read more here

Edit: But it’s only 1 extended license for 1 theme on themeforest. So if someone wants to include the same jquery slider from codecanyon in 2 different themes/templates for sale, he/she needs to buy the extended license 2x.

Yeah you’re actually right and there is already an on going discussion about adjusting the prices as far as I know. The current situation is also a reason why some codecanyon authors opt out of selling their items with the extended license.

Let’s see what envato comes up with.

Well i can remember that the price was in the begining a lot higher, but they changed it…not smart if you ask me.

Yes you can change the settings but not per file(haven’t looked yet)

Well, I guess it is not an easy task to determine the right balance in pricing. Not every theme which has a Slider from Codecanyon included sells very well, and not only because of the slider alone.

So if a template only sells about 100 times for about 14$ for example that would be 1400$ – in this case an extended license for a slider for about 70$ is just fine, but a wordpress theme with the same slider which also gets about 100 sales but is sold for 45$ is a big difference (4500$ and 70$ Slider).

And Yes, this is a general setting – but a per-file setting is also requested by some authors as far as I know. Maybe the dev team is implementing such functionality soon…hopefully

I think it’s not included in the download package or the CC author gets $ every sales of the theme, just my opinion :)

You can include a $10 CC item in a $15 TF template. Paying just $50. As surrealist as it sounds.
