Hi,

I just thought something about Collaboration features in Envato Marketplace.

Let say if I want to collaborate with an author in Themeforest (Graphic and coder collab), I design the layout and my partner (TF author or someone in Marketplace) is coder and it’s hard to split the earnings because maybe my partner from TF uploaded and he get the money, not me.

So, I think Envato need to add this features because not all author in GraphicRiver has an ability to code the PSD . That’s means TF author need to upload the items and they can use a form to fill in their partner name and the earnings will automatically split into two or three.

:)

Envato will never activate such feature. If you team up with any other author, create a shared account, and manage the account both with same admin permissions. Obviously you will need to trust in your partner, that’s the most important point in any business relation.

There are many teams already working in Envato. This is a nice example:

Profitable collaborations are so rare case. We can find only very few examples here (I don’t know exactly how they feel about decision making and communication, it is very tough).

From observing some successful authors, I think if you don’t have multiple skills (atleast to cover 2 different marketplaces) one day or other day there will be bunch of headache.

haha, also I feel asking such system to Envato is similar to ordering food on a hotel with few extra plates to share, not sure on other countries but here the servers will get angry! :D

I know many teams already working in Envato, but it must through some procedure between you and other author such as to split the earnings and create new account (PayPal maybe). Yes, in business is all about trust each other, of course we will collaboration with trusted author in marketplace. :)

That’s just what I thought, but love to see it live and there’s several thing need to consider. :)

Even if envato did create a system like this, it would take a ton of work because it’s rarely as simple as a 50/50 split for the entire account. For example themeforest a designer/developer team. Does the developer take a 50/50 split of the PSD file sales? I doubt it. What about on some projects if the design person does the HTML /CSS build and the dev only does the wordpress part…now it’s only 50/50 for the WP theme version and the designer gets 100% of the PSD sales and 100% of the HTML /CSS build sales. You’d have to come up with % splits for each project on the account. And posting the PSD version, HTML version and WordPress version of the same template on different accounts to manage the % payments would be even worse.

So there’s a lot of variables to consider, definitely not as simple as just having envato automatically split the monthly payout 50/50.

it is not that is impossible, and there is no need for such extra suystem build specificaly for this. Early last year i have seen some posts on the forums, designers looking for codders to partner with and codders looking for designers to partner with. As far i remember, anyone posted on such request find a good partner. What i think that works best is a new account created where both parties have access to (sharing the username and passowrd), this way they can have better control over the account, handle items support, reply to questions etc.

...as a designer, you can just post on CC or TF forums and see if you can find someone to partner with. As for sharing profits, i think both parties have paypal accounts and they create an additional new paypal account where the earnings are landing with withdrawal request. And from that paypal profits get transfered/shared over to the personal PP accounts. If you plan to partner with someone, you idealy look your partner is located in USA for easy paypal transactions…with the last PP changes it is hard to transfer paypal funds for non US accounts.

Me personaly, i feel it is very late for such partnership simply coz of the marketplace overloaded with items. If i must give an example, in the early days of TF launch, i believe it was much easy to get a wp theme through the approval…today i believe it is much harder to get such item approved and it can be a headech to get even 1 item up. Why i am saying this…experience LOL . I and Neel (my partner) we created an account in common on TF http://themeforest.net/user/neel (still a life LOL ). Created a few wp themes and submited for review. After several rejections with reasons that we both didnt understand, we simply give up “improving our themes” and decided to partner outside of envato. Today we have our own wp themes store where we sell our wp themes, we both have seen, actually we didnt need envato as a shopping cart in order to make money :)

This has already been discussed before, and I believe the dev team is still working on a collab feature. Checkout question seven:
