Hi,

So I’m thinking of doing some collab work on themes. I’m interested to know how it works for otther people in particular how they go about seperating out the earnings etc.

What works/doesn’t work, what are the pros/cons of different ways of doing this?

Don’t make a separate account.

Use the account that has the most sales/followers/items so you get the most sales possible out of the item.

Well determine how many percentage who gets (it’s usually 40% designer – 60% developer) and then when time comes for splitting the money it’s simple math (the user that owns the account never speaks with the other one again and takes 100% for him, or share with the other guy, that’s ok too).

In my case all themes are uploaded to my account because I have the biggest selling rate and I have at least a little more followers than new account would have.

And about splitting earnings, I have had a bit “strange” partners because they haven’t ever asked me to withdraw money to their account. So I’ve been deciding by myself when the time would be right to do that. :P

Agreed. The separate account for collaboration themes is a mistake I believe. Not only do you reset to 50% commission, you also lose all of the existing brand recognition under your current account (if you have any) which helps sell more themes.

The solution is for Envato to develop a real forum for each item’s support (which they are working on now!). However, in the mean time, being able to authorize other authors to “reply” to comments for a theme, that would solve the account access problem.
