This suggestion is nice for many purposes but will Envato ever add this feature just to see announcement notes like “Item Support only through author’s own forum”? How about removing the entire comment section for the authors who prefer only external channels for support?
If a buyer purchases 3 items from 3 different authors, it will require them to login 3 more sites just to ask simple questions. Lack of basic features on marketplace comment section + asking buyers to login infinite channels would become an issue number #1 for ThemeForest by next year. Probably buyers will runaway to the vendors where this issue doesn’t exist. Or it will constrain the buyers to purchase only through the authors from where they already familiar getting support – regardless of item fitness as of current needs.

I don’t see why not. Because this is what happens anyway and if the customer doesn’t realize this when posting a comment they’re just going to be further frustrated.

Justin is going to be going over the entire system of how authors can provide support etc. I’ll make sure to let him know about your idea

I actually agree for the notes from author especially to point about support channel. But if there are too many authors say the same message (probably already started happening in fast pace), it will raise another question of why not simply put the comment section as optional since it expected to be left as desert.
So it is more of a question of how buyers will take it when half of the WP items say the same about support.

We already use signatures, example here: http://themeforest.net/item/showtime-business-and-portfolio-wordpress-theme/discussion/117367 You can just write a Greasemonkey script for that![]()
This. This is witchcraft! Briliant idea! Do you somehow parse it in real time or have some scraper and keep all comments in your db?

Thanks
It had to be done so we wouldn’t have to create some extra and obnoxious forums. We slowly scrape it and save it in our own DB every few weeks. Still waiting for Envato to enhance the Support system…
