Could be a good business to be an affiliate?

I am planning to develop a big and good website to offer products from Envato. Im even developing my own API stuff to get really a lot of info, good categories, etc.

Could be a good business? Didf you recommend me to invest much work on this?

While I think its possible that you could make a good income from affiliates along with the proper amount of traffic… I don’t think the affiliate program Envato has is good enough to try and base a full-time income off of

I’d say look into other affiliate programs. Envato will only pay you if you get a new user to purchase or deposit for the first time. I don’t think that will happen often enough to support a business.

Indeed. Great if you can somehow get new users here, but a waste if they have already signed up

Envato need to increase the 30% referral cut to at least 50% or the sames as the authors commission rate. I think 30% is not a good enough incentive to spend time and money advertising. Lets bump it to 50% or greater, then we will alot more users come to the site.

This really needs to change

I think they should actually drop the percentage to like 10% and make it for EVERY deposit whether they have purchased or not

or that…

Google doesn’t like affiliates, so maybe create your own products

Some users have said they have like 12,000 hits a month and good payouts.

But, yes the payouts could be bigger.

With so many users, and probably potential users having cookies from previous visits – it’s difficult to get new registers.

I have about 400 unique visitors a month – but only 1 registered per month, with no deposits.

As you can see, I’ve referred LOTS of users to themeforest and earned good money. As long as Google liked me. From one day to another, my site got kicked, despite my hand-written quality content. Two days later, the same happened to my AdWords campaign. So I removed ALL affiilate links and surprise, surprise, I got listed again, but won’t earn any money anymore.

As long as affiliate is a side business and your site has substantial value other than recommending third party products, you may give it a try.

If your site is just for the purpose of affiliate earnings, forget it. Don’t get in the way of Google’s own business model.
