This is a question ; when we sell a template with a line in the footer saying : “Designed by your name”, I understand that the buyer can remove this line, but does he have the right to modify this line saying that he is the designer (author) of this theme ?..........

I busted one of my theme with that situation.

Thanks!

No, he may not. He may under no circumstances claim the work as his own.

He can’t take credit for designing it; but he’s more than free to remove your name from being referenced.

Just interested to know why TF themes are allowed this rule when templates from other similar websites have no ‘web design by…’ at all. Is this why the themes are more affordable on TF than the similar sites?

We don’t have a rule either way. The author is more than welcome to add a “designed by” credit on their site. Just the same, the buyer is more than welcome to delete it. :)

Just put a line in your description file saying thet they can’t take credit for designing it but they can remove the credit. That’s it ;)

I hope you dont mind me asking. How about if I purchase a theme and then modify general elements and placement of the theme, so about 55% of the theme is changed, is the modifier (in this case me) allowed to put a design by link?

Also I am kind of new here, and sometimes themeforest already has a slew of nicely designed themes I can modify to what I envision it would look for my preference. Is this allowed therefore to replace design by link if you redesigned part of the original theme?

Of course all credits in the admin panel are maintained.
