Is it possible to perform two or more “photo effects” functions at the same time in one file? I would like to compare what the image will look like in different effects. At the moment, I have to try out one effect at a time – very slow.

no you can only do 1 thing at a time, usually very quick unless its a huge file, what are your system specs and size of file you are working on?

Well, you could open the same file twice and then compare it, but that probably won’t be time efficient if you don’t have strong machine.
You still could record an action with opening two files and run desired effect on first, then second picture, I think that would be closest to what you are looking for.
