Hey guys, my latest theme (which I won’t link but you can see in my profile) has got the CU3ER flash component and it’s giving a minority of buyers some problems.

The theme creates an XML config file dynamically for the flash component and it all works for 99% of the clients. In some cases, something very strange is happening with the 3d slider and it gives an actionscript error that’s not self explanatory. The strange thing is that if you revert to the default wordpress permalink structure it all works fine.

So, does anyone ever had any similar problem related to the permalink structure of wordpress and the inclusion of a flash component using swfobject?

Thanks guys :)

NOTE : I know it could be a completely Host related problem, I just think the buyers deserve some kind explanation and solution from me :)

I encountered some similar issues with my latest ShapeShifter theme – Cu3er seems to be finicky about the URLs provided inside Wordpress. I ended up using something like this:

<!-- Cu3er 3D block scripts --> <?php $config_url = get_bloginfo('template_url').'/library/cu3er/config_shapeshifter.xml'; ?> <script src="<?php echo get_bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/library/cu3er/js/swfobject/swfobject.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var flashvars = {}; flashvars.xml = "<?php echo $config_url; ?>"; flashvars.font = "font.swf"; var attributes = {}; attributes.wmode = "transparent"; attributes.id = "slider"; swfobject.embedSWF("<?php echo get_bloginfo('template_url'); ?>/library/cu3er/cu3er.swf", "cu3er-container", "590", "300", "9", "expressInstall.swf", flashvars, attributes); </script>

I’ve seen a few other authors use a similar method – it comes down to needing to declare some of the variables outside of the embed script, then call them back inside it. Hope that helps a little!

EDIT – sorry that code above is almost unreadable – it might help to copy it to a word editor – I can’t get the line breaks to show up in the forum :)

Hi, and thanks for the reply Epicera.

I actually have found a solution for this and had nothing to do with cu3er. As I’ve said in the first comment, I’m using a custom php file which queries wordpress using a normal wordpress loop to output the xml based on posts from the selected featured category.

The thing is, the file I was including in the php to be able to query wordpress objects, outputted some bad http header info which was causing 404 errors in some hosts (e.g. Godaddy).

It just required me to switch from including wp_blog_header.php to wp_config.php.

I hope this helps anyone who currently have problems with their themes or future authors who want to include cu3er in their wordpress themes when dynamically generating a xml config file.

Best regards, UniSphere

Dear MakeDesign NotWar, I have gathered several images that i want to post on my Los Angeles theme. question 1 is:

1.) How to change the”Los Angeles” header to my own. (I’ve already made it, I just need to know in the dashboard (wordPress) where to copy the code. Step-by-step

2.) Also, how to get my photo slideshow into the cu3er area under the header.

here is the link to my project: http://workwithkyleashley.com/

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. I use FireFox and have FireBug. I use NVU to help convert code. I don’t know css yet. I know I can figure this out, I just need a little “nudge” thanks, Kyle kadaddy1gmail.com

ah i see, you are including a php file and there including the wp_blog_header.php in order to get all the wp functionality.

But that way is wrong!!

If you need to call some dinamic php to return an xml or anything else, and need to keep wp header on it, you need a new query_var:

add_filter('query_vars', 'add_new_var_to_wp');
function add_new_var_to_wp($public_query_vars) {
    $public_query_vars[] = 'theme_custom_var';
    return $public_query_vars;
}
add_action('template_redirect', 'theme_custom_var_function');
function theme_custom_var_function(){
    $query_var = get_query_var('theme_custom_var');
    if ($query_var == 'xml'){
        include_once ( THEME_PATH . '/dinamic.php');
        exit;
    }
}

Then, inside dinamic.php you can output anything as normaly on any template.

Also, dinamic.php could be inside theme folder. The point is here: include_once ( THEME _PATH . ’/dinamic.php’);

The call for the dinamic.php must be something like this:

dinamic.php?theme_custom_var=xml

And you can print/echo an xml structure there.

Ccan play with that and create more vars, or no var, just the call to the php itself.

Hey thanks RG for the quick response. However, is there someway I can find instructions in lamens terms somewhere on the internet? I messaged the author and he is seems to be overwhelmed with emails. I don’t know html or css. If instructed what to grab, copy and where to paste, I might be able to figure it out. If I had the money, I would just outsource it. I need instructions for “dummies” Thanks again! Kyle Ashley 321-591-7599
