Did you face any downtime? Do you monitor your site up time, if yes how?

Yesterday i’ve stared, so no to both of your questions :D

Maybe i’ll post another review in a week or two after i have more time to play with it and move all my theme there to see how it works with real visitors.

My current review was based only on the first impressions. When i first tested my themes with WPE they were between 100-200% faster than on (mt). When i tested them with ASO, they were about 25-50% better than WPE, so that’s why i’ve decided to stay..

We are using managed dedicated server at 040Hosting. We pay ~170€/month. I really don’t remember the last down time :). Support is really reliable and fast.

It’s not so cheap but worth every €.

Since i participated in this thread and tested some of the suggestions here and since i’ve already posted the following message in another thread, i’ll take this chance to post a little bit of spam :D and shortly review my experience with some of the suggestions here:

I was on a (mt) (gs) for two years now, then i felt the need to change, because the site’s were not loading fast enough. I mean, they were fast, but not fast enough. I’ve tried their (dv) service, but that wasn’t fast either, and it was a bit hard to configure for a noob like me.

Then i’ve tried digitalocean.com which is a fast unmanaged SSD VPS, but when i saw myself(the noob) with nothing i concluded that it was too hard for me to learn how to setup my own server.

Then i’ve tried wpengine.com, which had the best speed from what i’ve ever seen(for wp sites). But the price was high and there are a lot of things that i do not like about it(it is mainly for wp and it has a lot of limitations about which i don’t want to talk here, and it’s also a bit hard to setup at first)..

So at the end, after searching a while on Google, i found asmallorange.com, which has a managed SSD VPS starting at only $30! When i’ve tested their speed, it was better than wpengine without any wp caching(which wpengine uses heavily for speed optimizations). And above all, it has cPanel, which for me(the noob) it has the essential!

So at incredible speed + cPanel + low price($30-50 / month depending on your needs), i say that “A Small Orange” is a gem.. :)

Ruben, this is a great valuable quick review :D

So, the big question is: With $30 VPS plan in “ASO” you get 700GB of bandwidth. Is this enough for running ALL your themes and support forum? Please try to measure this and report back when finish the first month (I assume they have some kind of statistics helps you to know how much resources/quota still available) and start to create better idea about them.

Another question in my head, for just $10 in “DigitalOcean” you get the same resources of “ASO” PLUS 10GB of storage space and 1TB of bandwidth, in other words you pay about $20 more in “ASO” for managing your VPS, so is it really hard to learn how to setup and run unmanaged VPS? It seems to be something you can learn by some reading, but I’m concerned about the potential security or tech issues that could be happen, and we never dealt with it on shared hosting for example!

Used JaguarPC for a couple of years, was utterly appauling

So much downtime, to the point where 31 days of the last 90 days of my time with them was down time based on pingdoms reporting. Support was truly awful and they actually lied to me so I’d take a VPS package which was even worse than their shared

I won’t go on, but let’s just say you should avoid them

Been with bluehost pro for about 8 months, actually can’t fault it, their help and support has been great the few times I’ve needed them. I host a lot of sites, as well as all my demos and themes and the only concern I have is the file count, but given the huge amount I hav already, if it ever became an issue I’d have no problem just making a second account with them the spread the load :)

Regardless of the remarkably low price, I’d recommend bluehost all day long.

@premitheme i am currently using about 300-400gb of bandwidth per month(at around 600-800k pageviews) so I guess that a plan of max $50 would be more than enough for now and the future.. About the price yes, managed means $20 more per month, but as I said in my review, I’m a lazy learner so I better pay more and have it all managed than manage it myself..

@SimpleSites4U Well, I am not sure what went wrong with jaguarPC service lately because I used there VPS once for like a month and received almost 99.9% uptime, but have recently saw some bad reviiews about them.

I have hopped from various VPS providors, some premium and some no so premium, in the mean time learned that there is no “QUICK SUPPORT” and no “100% UPTIME GUARANTEE” what so ever!

Also, owning a good VPS does not come cheap, so after much losses I had to resell my very own VPS to shared clients :P

That’s totally false. You just didn’t try the right company yet.

I just believe that there’s nothing 100% perfect and you cant find a single thing with 100% positive feedbacks. Even MT (which has great reputation and popularity, and not cheap) receives negative reviews.

So, it will be great if you suggest the RIGHT company :)
