Hey guys. I’m new to the development part of wordpress, but i have been designing for a long time. I trying to read up on how develop my first theme, and i have one question that really bugs me. So i hope some of you can help me understand it :)

- When writing the code for the theme, lets say the index.php do you actually write in the site content? What i mean is, i would like to “build” the content inside the Wordpress admin panel. How do you guys do it?

The way i kinda want it, is the write the header and the footer.php, and then “build” the rest in the admin panel.

The reason i ask, is when ever i find a tutorial, typically on Youtube, the are coding the actual content, and i want the content to be customizable for who ever is going to end up using the theme. So it should have no content, and then they of cause can upload the demo content which i have build in the admin area.

It’s hard to explain what i mean, i hope you guys can understand what i’m trying to ask here :)

Thanks :)

Hi. You will basically insert content for the specific page in the back-end (WordPress admin) and call it with the <?php the_content(); ?> code.

You should rather search for standard text tutorials when you want to start coding WP.

Thank you for replying LubosVolovar. Yes i’m starting to figure that out now :) i just find it much easier to understand with video tutorials, but can’t seem to find anyone that are specific about this :)

I think it’s hard to get an overview of where to start, and how it all connects. Because the theme i want to build is going to be for other users :)

But my basic understanding of it, is you create the footer and header files, and import them into every page. And then you create templates, ex. with sidebars, sliders..

Am i totally wrong here?

You are on the right track. Just don’t hurry yourself and do some googling for text turorials. This is not something you can learn in few hours. And really forget about video tutorials (at least at the beginning).

You can watch video tutorials. They are more than helpful but be sure to constantly read from the Wordpress Codex as you advance through them.

I strongly encourage you to look through the articles on http://code.tutsplus.com/categories/wordpress :)
