Today we saw one new theme by elite author. It’s price is 50$. Theme doesn’t have special design – blank, clean, minimal, standard look. It’s not translated to any language and does not provide compatibillity with any eCommerce solution or something that would increase the price. So our question is: Have TF increased price for WP themes?

If you’re talking about Orman Clark’s work, his all themes are $50 :)

This bugged me too. Orman’s design are always very simple, elegant and awesome but I thought prices depend upon the features. Even Avada is for 45$ while it is a huge theme.

And not only 1 but his all themes are $50. Even his HTML template is $20 while usual HTML templates are 10-15$.

Maybe it’s because of his designs or maybe power elite authors can set the price themselves, like Alexlasek said. :)

It might be because of code quality and backend features.

It’s pretty obvious why all his themes are $50. It’s got nothing to do with design, code or quality. Take a look at how many sales each of his themes make. It’s purely a business decision by Envato.

If that were the case then why are Kriesi and Peerapong’s templates at the various price points (ranging from $40 to $60) as they should be, but OC’s not. mmm…

I’d never even noticed it until seeing this thread. It does seem a bit fishy!

Kriesi’s recent themes are all over $50+ however not all of Peerapongs themes sell large amounts. It is pretty obvious why these items are priced that way. I wouldn’t be surprised if less themes are approved for the next few days, to control exposure.

Business is business. Everyone can’t be treated equally. It might not be fair but that’s how it works. Take a look at the WooThemes situation a few months ago. We just have to live with it I guess :D

Any author can request whatever price they’d like (within reason), its up to Envato to approve it or not — been like that since beta back in 2008.

Well, I don’t know why that theme has the price it does, but this is a bit unfair… We all work hard and try to make the best themes. I know that theme’s price is usually defined by features and design. I mean if theme has some eCommerce plugin compatibillity it will for sure cost 50$... Another point, if we (non elite, new authors) submitted that theme it would be rejected due to uniqueness for sure… This really bugs us at this moment, because Envato claims to be fair and treat all authors the same, but now it’s clearly visible they don’t.
