I am curious as to how other people are making their files that they upload. For instance, do the search boxes that are within the layouts actually function? Or something like RSS feed icons. Are they just there for looks and then the person buying the template has to do the rest?

I believe on most templates you get purely the design – no scripts etc.

Obviously except for CMS themes, which will have everything styled and working correctly.

HTML Templates don’t come with this functionality (or, at least if would be kind of strange as things like search can’t be implemented using pure HTML ), but Wordpress and Joomla themes should have search, links to feeds, etc. working just fine right out of the box.

Wordpress themes have almost always ready searchfunctions or working rss-feeds. But normal HTML Templates don’t have ready searchboxes or something. There is maybe a contactform where you have to insert your own email adress but other features aren’t known to me.

Hmm. I guess you could make the search integrate with Google’s. Never thought of that.

It’s always a possibility with googles custom search API now.
