Hi all,
it seems I am not clicking with a customer of mine. It’s one thing to disagree on aesthetics – sometimes you just like something and sometimes you just don’t. And maybe I’m just not hitting his sweet spot with this design.
However, despite differences in taste, he also insists that my work is low quality and not professional.
This is a “cheat sheet”, trying to keep it very clean – does this look sloppy, unprofessional, low quality to you? Apart from the fact that you may or may not not like it, does this not meet the standards of a professional?
Honest opinions please

P.S. we also seem to disagree as to the design of this site: http://www.aisc.org/ – he thinks is is awesome while I think it’s merely ok. To me this is a slightly dated corporate design. Nothing wrong with it, but not something to rave about either. Something I would have done for a corporate client a few years back but not something I would consider as a role model today…
Hey Chris,
It does not look as bad as your client is describing :/
The only thing I would work on is the typography.
I would change the font to something less simple like Share (it looks much better in PS/AI).
I would also uppercase the main heading and all the sub headings in the black boxes.
2 cents.
Thanks for the feedback Mythic
The font choice was based on his brand’s logo font, that was the main thinking behind it – for consistency.
Will definitely create an additional version taking into account your comment.
Cheers
Chris
Thanks again Mythic,
this now is the same file updated with the suggested font:

http://www.lemon-digital.com/temp/preview11.jpgOf course this changes nothing in the main design/layout but I agree that the letters now look punchier.

No problem.
Great, looks better in my opinion. I prefer the black one
I would be happy with that design. If the client still rejects it, the only thing I would suggest is to work on the textures a little.
Thanks again Mythic
The project is done – he simply didn’t accept my work as professiona, so I’m just finishing this for my own pridel. He asked me to objectively look at it and maybe get other designers opinion and evaluate whether I could really pass this off as professional work. http://www.aisc.org/ is professional, but my work in this case isn’t.
That’s why I came here because I thought that maybe I’d be looking at this for too long so that I’ve been blinded to my own work – because honestly, nobody has ever told me that my stuff isn’t professional. You may like it or you may not like it, you can’t discuss taste, but to criticise it for lack of professionalism and quality … it’s a customer I’ve Worked with several times before and he’s always been happy with the work. So I still don’t quite get it…
I write it off as a loss, but I still wanted some criticism from fellow designers to see whether was missing something blatant here….
Thanks again for the input
Chris
P.S.: I also thought the black one was the best

The truth is, there are a lot of **heads outside. Your work is clean and professional. I like it. Sadly taste is subjective… End of the story.
Ps: I shouldn’t write posts when I’m drunk^^ cheers
Lol, thanks Clemens
He’s a nice guy – just for some reason we don’t click on this one …
Prost!
Chris
Hi Chris,
you know who I am and that I’ve purchased your work before. I’ve always been happy with the quality of your designs and this one, for what it is, looks great in my opinion … you can’t please everyone
KC
Nothing really wrong here! I’d really try to decrease the font size a bit, tho.
