Hi everyone,

How would you like to see a percent of your earnings donated to charity? Let’s say, authors who opt-in can donate percent of their earnings from an item during an entire month to a charity. Maybe Envato can also donate percent of their earnings (part of %30).

The selected items can be on the Front page in a new tab.

The charity can be selected from any of the projects from kickstarter.com.

This can be a great marketing opportunity for both authors and Envato. The buyers would be inclined to buy these items knowing that it will do good.

What you think?

I don’t think Donations should not be used as a marketing tool. It would create an unfair competition that to my oppinion should only be based on quality.

Making people choosing favors because they maybe like the fact that an item’s earnings will partly be used for charity is not fair against people who do not want to do charity and need all of their earned money.

Getting a special tab for such thing anywhere is just not fair – no place for such thing over here i think.

If you think like that, items accepted on bundles, featured items, etc… have unfair advantage.

Coca cola, google also makes donations, I guess they are unfair against pepsi and yahoo?

Donation is a donation, its for good.

^ It’s not about advantages or disadvantages. Using charity to get more sales is simply wrong ethics. I don’t care what Coca Cola or Google does, it’s wrong to ask people to buy your product because you’re giving 10% to charity.

I don’t think children without water in Africa really cares about if you make more sales. If they get more charity, the better.

I guess if that floats your boat, you don’t opt-in, its simple.

Donation is a donation, its for good.

The only issue is that a Corporation is a Corporation. And a Corporation’s only goal, as cold as it may sound is to make money. If it doesn’t make money, it doesn’t exist. Money gives it rank (Along with number of users.)You can’t just say “Oh, me and my family love my product it’s the best ever!” and it’s not making a dime, it’s just nothing then.

Do you think that the top-guns in Coca Cola, for example – care about a PARTICULAR Charity? Do you think it’s not a PR move? If it was true good, they wouldn’t say a thing about it. Ofcourse there are good people, who denies it? I have known some myself, but I believe that GOOD is only Legitimate when it’s kept to yourself, away from selfishness & proudness.

A point of view we all can agree on (I hope) is that Donations are really good for marketing and one shall use them if one thinks it’s best for his business, wrong or not – it’s the way business works.

A smart, kind business man would probably give 1-2% but not more. You don’t see Facebook & Big Corps. doing such a thing for a reason, after all. ;). If it was 5% out of $75k in hands, then probably some more would do, but you’re talking about passive income which gets cut by that percentage every month. No matter how good you are, it will bump into your brain that “Er, I think I gave enough.”.

But if Envato offers this kind of thing – then it’ll become a “mass product”, everyone would rush to do it without hesitation and then we’d just get back to point 0: Too many people doing charities, there’s no “marketing potential” anymore. Nobody donates.

It’s all a business, like it or not. I don’t particularly believe there’s such a concept as “good or bad” in business. Money talks, even if I personally don’t like it. Ofcourse, I am stricly talking about marketing. If the marketing works and the returns are high, that’s all that matter for a business – it won’t really affect its reputation, it will only grow it.

Hope it helped you see another point of view on the matter and why it probably won’t happen anytime soon.

It’s just an opinion.

All the best.

//Just to be clear: I also disagree with this, it’s basically taking advantage of the ones in need to grow yourself – but I believe one shall leave subjectivity when judging. It’s marketing, if it works – that’s great, but it’s all just business.

Still, the people in need would think otherwise.

Then you can scratch the front page part. Contributing some percentage of items of author who opt-in, without any gain.

What do you think?

You’re really misinterpreting my words man. Do your charity, but don’t brag or use it to gain anything.
