Lots of talk about the new search algorithms these days. Cool. But this thread is not about that :)

What I think is interesting, is that AJ has allowed authors to tag their songs with other AJ author usernames!

I understand that we can use another famous composer that’s not on AJ for example, but don’t you think using another authors name should be off limits?

If someone searches “timmcmorris” , most likely they are looking for me :)

If you want to see what I mean, and how this could be bad for all of us just search my name.

What are your thoughts? Do you mind authors using your name to tag their songs?

Good grief, I just searched your username.

This is horrendous and needs to be addressed immediately.

I have a similar problem with people piggybacking off other IP on Youtube (for example, “Famous Movie/Game” Music’ ) – implying that it’s from an official soundtrack, when really it’s just ‘inspired by’.

Piggybacking off other authors doesn’t seem right to me, and it will just make the whole thing more convoluted.

The tags themselves, should be fairly easy to police, the descriptions however are more of a shade of grey.

They should’ve used “timmcmorris” in the title and description as well, then maybe they would have gotten higher up on the search

Not good. I bet a lot of people will tag themselves as Tim or Pink.

I agree, this is something that definitely needs to be ironed out as part of the search ‘upgrade’.

Just had a look at one of those tracks though Tim, and the author has actually added links to your tracks in their descriptions, as a kind of “recommended suggestion”, so not sure if that was an attempt to game the system, or genuine innocence. Adding top-author usernames to tags however, is most likely with intent to habour views/sales.

It’s definitely wrong, but I guess it means that you are in a position now where people want to be like you. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, the items don’t have much sales. But of course what’s wrong is wrong.

As to YT I think it’s ok to have famous people or works in a tag, but video must be titled “famous track style music” or “famous track xyz cover”

Oh btw. isn’t adding AJ author name in tags prohibited? I ccould swear I saw it somewhere…

Checked it – you’re right. Didn’t notice that before.

That’s really not cool. Should definitely be off limit.

Shouldn’t the tags be checked in the review process? Items with tags like that should be hard rejected without further questions, imo.
