Dubstep - this is music?

Dubstep has been my favorite kind of music since when it was only known from underground parties – with all its subgenres from Drumstep to P*rnstep.

There isn’t any kind of music that goes deeper into my soul and muscles. It touches my spirit and strive for rhythm in every way.

But in the end, music is as much subjective as it is magical.
Whatever floats your goat.

Of course it is. How do you define “music” ? Melody, rhythm, pitch, dynamic, etc., Dubstep has all of that. Making a Dubstep hit requires hard-work and creativity as all other music genre. In every music genre there are always hits and craps so don’t get the spirit of the genre through only one song.

Dubstep like Skrillex is not dubstep in my opinion. I call this Popstep I like old dubstep like Burial or something like that.

No, dubstep is not music. Let’s just agree that it’s mostly a sound filling your ears. Just kidding, I don’t want to offend anyone. I don’t like dubstep. I tried to understand it and I actually found some tracks I liked, but generally, I don’t like it. Although there are definitely few tracks that are valuable enough to listen willingly.

The problem is, that to compose “real” music takes huge amount of effort, learning, talent and understanding of harmony, disharmony, resonance, dissonance, etc. You don’t need to know all this to compose dubstep. Of course, like with everything, there are better and worst makers of dubstep, so I’m not trying to generalize it, I’m not saying that everyone can start making dubstep, I’m just saying that it’s much easier.

The music is very complex thing. If you say it’s only subjective, than you don’t know what are you talking about. Like in design, there are a lots of objective values that can describe the quality of music and like with design, the more you try to understand, the more you listen, the more you can distinguish between bad, good and great music. For me, dubstep is bad, but that can be only because I don’t have enough experience to understand its qualities.
