@pezflash ,
Please don’t say that elite authors are not benefited with this new boxes because this is not true. With this new box elite authors will have more sales and will transmit more confidence to the customers when they buy a new file.
I’m not saying that this is not fair or something just don’t come here saying this box don’t have any advantage to the elite authors, etc ..

- Sold between 100 000 and 250 000 dollars

- Beta Tester
- Has been a member for 3-4 years
- Spain
^ I don’t think i’ll get more sales with this. That’s my honest opinion. I can’t be wrong (in fact, i hope so!
but i’m not lying or trying to be polite.
I’ve seen many featured files with no increase in sales, and many (many) great authors and files, that for any kind of reasons were never featured, getting huge number of sales, completely deserved. This should encourage new authors for working on new quality items.

In a hypothetical marketplace without paws, public earnings info and more: maaaaybe
In a current marketplace: hardly
Thats also why I think this whole situation is blown out of proportion a little bit. I can easily understand both points of view but I dont think there is something to be concerned about.
By the way, something nobody has mentioned here yet I believe: As a veteran author, would you be satisfied with a reward in form of an Elite badge and some extra gifts like a business card set? This is after you gave the marketplace your exclusive rights and tens of thousands of dollars. How much did you gave them? I am not saying I feel this way, by any means I do not, but its an angle worth thinking about too. Maybe Envato just tried to “give back” you know, as a token of their appretiation and recognition.

I agree with you and on my previous comment I didn’t said that this new “elite box” it’s not deserved or so. As you mentioned Envato with this elite features and extra gifts is just “giving back” to elite authors some appretiation and recognition, and I think this is totally deserved.
I only don’t agree and I don’t like to see some comments saying that this “elite boxes” don’t give any advantage when they know that is not true, even if the sales increase 1%.
@downv, Agree with you.
P.S. I can’t wait to become an elite author
- United States
- Has been a member for 4-5 years
- Exclusive Author
- Author was Featured
- Sold between 50 000 and 100 000 dollars
- Item was Featured
- Contributed a Tutorial to a Tuts+ Site
- Author had a Free File of the Month
Pez is correct that quality rules. But downv is also correct that these new boxes will have an effect. Badges? Too many of them for buyers to worry about what’s what. A banner saying the file was made by someone who is “Elite”? Doesn’t matter what that actually means. Associating a file with the word “elite” without a doubt will have a positive effect on sales.
Now like downv, I don’t have any problem with it, and think it’s great that Envato rewards authors with things like this

Author % should absolutely be based on dollars. But author recognition should be a bit more sophisticated IMO .

I think those who are elite deserve some kind of recognition, but not at the cost of those who are not yet elite.
To be honest, I think the current ‘Elite’ status should be ‘Best Sellers’ and the ‘Elite’ auhtors should be those with a certain percentage in the ratings.
If somebody has, for example, 250 ratings and have 5 stars, that is more an elite author to me.

but still I would like to read some buyer’s opinion. Btw. I absolutely agree that quality and original items doesn’t need any tag for good sales.
Nice badge, I love the idea! =]
