Hi there, I have a question: What is the official academy of the English Language? the one that makes and/or approves the rules. I know that Spanish has R.A.E. (Real Academia Española) but I have always wondered if the English language had one and if so, which one it is.
Google did not help very much.
I don’t think there’s any organization which governs the English language.
Oxford English Dictionary, I think.
EDIT : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_language_regulators English doesn’t have an official academy.
I think Ivor is correct for British English, at least the Received Pronunciation of London. I’m not sure about American English, although there is a Standard American English of San Francisco.
EDIT : I stand corrected Ivor I guess those places have more to do with accents and pronunciations.
There is no official academy.
