Hello Marketplaces! :-)

Here at HQ we’ve been talking a lot about our Vision for 2020, to give us a long term goal to be working towards. This is a bigger picture part of our work, and helps inform the day to day priorities and goals we all have. In particular as CEO, this is a big part of my job. Essentially future-proofing Envato!

You can read all about it on Inside.Envato and there’s a video from me too :-)

A big piece of our vision is helping our community succeed, and as such we really wanted to get the community’s input. I’m happy to take absolutely any input really, but ideally would really want to hear answers to the questions:

(1) In the context of the Envato ecosystem, what does success mean to you?

(2) What do you want to achieve through our sites? What new things and in what new ways could we be helping you succeed?

(3) What would it look like for the whole community to be succeeding?

Discuss away here on the forums, or on Inside.Envato, or there’s an anonymous form, or you can chat at Microlancer’s blog or Tuts+’ blog! Selina from my comms team is going to be collecting it all up, and helping collate everything for myself and the team. I’m expecting there to be a lot of discussion :-)

Dev license (or similar) would be great on CodeCanyon. It would also be kind of cool to see tuts take on a stackoverflow format.

1. i would like to see logos being sold under extended licence and most probably a separate marketplace just for logos.

2. A higher payout % for authors.

Or at least a higher starting value (currently 50%).

1. I think for everyone in general, envato , success is to provide quality products to people or buyers . Moreover personal success especially authors envato is to help improve their quality of life in general , I think that rates a little higher fee for the authors would help to encourage mostly or rate of commission above 50 % for new entrants. For me being able to earn some money and start enjoying also get to live these values ??is mostly successful but without forgetting that we are offering a quality product and our work is being recognized internationally .

2. I want to grow as a professional in the area , improving the quality and get enough profit to slowly become independent and to improve the quality of life for my family and mine , working at my own pace and with complete creative freedom. I think envato can support this cause with new incentives for new authors as well as more incentives for authors are Cups, commission , gifts , contests, etc.

Success for me will be the day that I can work full time for the marketplaces, creating awesome plugins and supporting awesome customers. Spending more time with family while at home would be a huge plus.

(2) What do you want to achieve through our sites? What new things and in what new ways could we be helping you succeed?
I thought long and hard, and these are the 2 things I’ve come up with.
1 – Envato is a large company, and when people aren’t happy we lose sales. I think it’s time you invested in phone support. I think having a phone number would also increase bulk purchases, like the $40k+ one recently because someone can call and say hey, I want 4,500 licenses of this and be handled within minutes instead of days through email.
2 – I would really like to see the marketplace evolve drastically – new design, shopping cart, new licenses and whatever else would help spice this place up. It seems lately there have been many small projects that keep taking away from bigger ones, like the shopping cart.

(3) What would it look like for the whole community to be succeeding?
Working together and better communication overall

- i want an equal fair share between other Marketplace for Envato’s Most Wanted Item every month or so. Currently most of the bounty only caters for Themeforest. I’m sure to come up with Most Wanted you need a specific amount of demand for an Item, we just want to have regular competition, maybe Design Monthly Challenge for GraphicRiver, (i dont mind small amount of prize) so that we can have an active community member for all the marketplace. :)

ps: and please don’t forget the “Weekly Top New Items” for new authors sake. :D

Hey Collis, thanks for this post and also for the video :)

(1) Success for me is each time a customer purchases one of my items. The fact that someone was willing to pay money to buy a product I’ve created, makes me feel proud.

(2) Hopefully one day I’ll be able to concentrate even more on creating products here at Envato and perhaps have it as my full time job!

I think one way to help authors (especially new authors) around the marketplaces will be to find a creative way to feature more items on a weekly basis.

And specifically for Videohive, I think it would make sense to have a separate marketplace for stock footage (possibly combined with Photodune, perhaps something like “StockLand” as discussed in this thread).
