At the risk of sounding trite, “better to try something great and fail than try nothing and succeed.”

Would it really be all that much of an organizational nightmare if broken up into small steps? We like games & contests – start out with a contest for pitches for the overall concept. Run it for a month have everyone vote for their favorite idea. We could do the same thing with graphic backgrounds, element designs, sound effects, music, etc.

The open source community manages this all the time. Why not us?

Fail or succeed, I’ll contribute what audio I can.
This is actually a great approach. Instead of having a set team (which could fall apart), we could use the power of the network to drive every step of the way.

+1 Great idea…

We’ll still need a team to pull all the parts together though :-)

+1 and you’re right Sam. But I guess this is the best idea. I think we have a number of people here who have a day job and many are freelancers like us. So it instantly denies the possibility of making an easily manageable team as most of those who are able to create the game will be busy with their jobs. What I can think of now is that team members should be decided first. After that, starting the platform, game engine and game genre discussion I guess?

Whatever you guys do, count me in for graphic design. I can pull out wallpapers, cover designs and also textures if there’s involvement of 3d.

I’m also into this…I would be interested in contributing sounds and or music to the free game. I would like to collaborate with game designers to make app/games. I already have a great idea for a game, but don’t know how to make one…This would be a great way to learn how to do it. :)

The very first thing is to decide wether the game is going to be:

  • In 3D or 2D
  • Multiplayer/singleplayer only
  • Platform(s): Phones, PC, MAC and so on…
  • FPS /RPG/MMO/Action/Arcade

then you will know what coders and cgi makers you gonna need, surely will need not only the good graphic knowledge and music compositors aswel as coders but the main thing you will need a good story line and good game scenario. Wich is the actual script writing and poetry :))

I think it would make sense for EFEKT _Studio to manage the competitions :-)

Hope I’m not out of place here, but the easiest and most practical way of getting this in motion is by organizing just a few authors, and doing something simple. By simple I really mean simple. Once people see that it has been created, it’ll be much easier to get feedback and interest from additional authors. It is by having a simple version of a game that it can be improved, and seen as a challenge. Otherwise, it becomes too much talk, too many people, too many different directions, bound to get lost and forgotten. Keep it real, keep it simple. Anyway, it’s just an opinion. Cheers.

That makes sense, we’re still going to need someone to make all the initial fundamental decisions, and to organize the small group of authors :)
