Now we’re just going based off of what looks good to us, the authors, and not how the buyers truly feel. That’s abusing the system. Wouldn’t that be unfair for the customers that truly have horrible experiences with the project they purchased? Rather they can’t contact the author, or the author is being completely rude, or whatever the case may be.

No matter how perfect or how good an item is here, all of the top selling items have been voted a one star rating by a buyer. If the majority are voting 5 stars, then the one star votes are not actually the authors fault, but most probably the buyer did something wrong, like wasn’t following the instructions, didn’t understand what he was purchasing or many other factors. But those 1 star votes are not based on something rational, but more out of emotion such as anger or spite. So no I don’t agree that we should allow buyers to vote based on feelings, because that’s why we end up with these unfair 1 star ratings.

Also what’s interesting if you look at the ratings break down on each item, the majority of votes is 5 stars, then 1 star, and then 4,3,2… so it’s clear the system is being abused by some who want to do damage and go straight for the 1 star vote. It’s either 5 star = happy client, or 1 star = not happy.

Then we should get rid of the rating system if you don’t agree that we should allow buyers to vote based on feelings, because they’re going to do so regardless of what type of rating system we have…. why? Because it’s a rating system. You’re asking for honest feedback from every customer that’s willing to dish it out… and that’s their honest feedback, even if it’s driven out of anger or confusion.

Look, I understand what you’re getting at. My point is you’re going to deal with things like this no matter what type of rating system you have. Look around, every rating system is this way. Huge business companies that have rating systems have 5 star, 3 star, and yes, even 1 star ratings. They deal with the good and the bad that comes out of it even if it’s unfair.. do they change their rating system? No. They continue to work hard and push forward and help that customer to the best of their abilities. If they can’t, well at least they tried. But if they’re truly a great business, it will reflect in their overall ratings due to the customers that actually provide rational feedback. They don’t need to tamper with anything to make themselves look better… nor do they need to blame a rating system and call it flawed for simply doing what it’s designed to do.

@ZeroLink exactly.

But you wont get thru to the authors mate, they stuff their fingers in their ears and bury their heads in the sand. Chanting, it’s so unfair, woe is me.

Along with ..

“I only want buyers to have the ability to rate 5 stars or not rate at all” many an author I have witnessed would actually rather give a refund than have the 1 star rating hanging around their necks.

Whats more saddening is BUYERS realise this, and so yes they can get blackmailed in to providing extra support over and above, just to get that rating boosted on the basis of goodwill.

Anyhoo, I am out of this discussion. As we say in Australia, HTFU

Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down
After 5 minutes the vote should no longer be editable by the user.

Problem solved.

Just like editing a comment :) Well you can leave another but in ratings case you would have to buy another :)

To avoid abusing ratings, another solution would be not allowing rating 1 or 2 stars after rating 5 stars, I can’t imagine any valid reason to rate a product 1 or 2 stars after rating it 5 stars in the first place.

Its really sad, a new product i launched “Sixthlife Search for Envato Affiliates” with 100% working demo and plugin. I used it on my blog sixthlife.net/blogs for a whole 1 year, know for sure it works on various servers, as i changed server thrice..

The 6th buyer decides to leave a feedback so it is the first feedback “not working at all”

I immediately mailed him after feedback, still awaiting his reply…

After so much efforts you put it is really sad ):
I also requested and offered him all support but did not got any answer from him
May be envato should allow authors to request their buyer for additional feedback through the system and do not publish a feedback if the buyers choose not to reply. At least we can refund if the buyer does not want help..
+1 agree on it. Now customer want me to refund. I earned 50% and he want me to refund full amount :(. not sure what should I do now
