What exactly does a minimum of 30 sprites mean? Does it mean we to animate 30 characters or the character has to have 40 different frames or we need to create 30 different items?
Can we use gradients, shadows or any other layer styles ?

not much the point of a sprite now is it ?
(there’s a handy movie clip included) I don’t think it’s not allowed, but it will certainly affect the size, and you’ll have less control over adjusting it manually.

I think it should be allowed because now a days even modern cell phones can display highly detailed sprites.

I watched the videoclip, but what I think is I have seen such 2d games with highly detailed graphics, even in less power phones. That’s why I’m worring..
And in the other hand I watched the complete video clip, and got a good idea about sprite sheets and how a sprite sheet can reduce capacity with the removing of alpha channels, unwanted spaces but it doesnt give any explanation about individual sprites as I saw.. please somebody guide this thread on the standard sprite sizes, detailing levels ect.. (Is it ok to have 64×64 for a sprite) ?
In my opinion, there is no exact size or even limit for size of sprite!
Nowadays, we have FullHD smartphones & tablets, so I think even 256×256 can be useful for today games. but I would rather to use 128×128 for each item.
Also I think gradients can be used for sprite sheets. besides, it’s not mentioned that the files should be 2d or 8-bit or 16-bit! so we have freedom to choose pixel art or more complex items!

Please Note: All entries need a minimum of 30 sprites, either for one character, multiple characters, or a complete game scene/theme!
I think, there must be at least 30 different sprites, your design may have only one character, but in 30 different positions or 30 different characters, only in one position and everything between.
For example, for a tower defense game, you can design 4 or more different positions for a single tower. Or for a combat game, you may have 3 different characters and 10 different positions for each one (Ex. standing, walking, running, jumping & Etc)!
(That’s my opinion, for a complete answer, you must ask the moderator!)
Sounds awesome!
