Looks like almost no one is interested in developing a template for Symphony so far… too complex, too new and not really discovered by most of developers. Anyways good luck for everyone!

You might be wrong :)

Symphony is indeed more complex than other systems. XSLT is a beautiful templating language though and the ability to shape any site you want freely warrants the bump in learning curve, I think. It’s certainly not for everyone and the system wasn’t designed as such.

Though I may have to disagree with you on the project’s age. It’s been around since 2003. If my math is correct, that’s like 86.933 (recurring) years in Internet land :p

In terms of community size, I grant you it’s relatively small. There are only about 11,000 site members, which in relation to other projects is tiny. That said, there are some high profile websites using Symphony.

In terms of project activity, there are around 400 extensions available (300 of which are curated) and around 500 sites that’s been submitted as showcases on the Symphony official website.

Hi guys! Thanks for your patience while I gathered a bit more info from the great guys at Symphony. Allen has been really helpful and has certainly reinforced my feelings about their great CMS and dedicated community.

Symphony is not a typical CMS and the closest to “theming” for them is the creation of Ensembles. However, an Ensemble is not only packages visual “themes” but also entire functionalities.

It’s also possible to install a custom “workspace” in Symphony, which excludes the core and extensions. Everything a user adds to the system is placed in the “workspace” folder. This is typically the way Symphony users share builds around.

So in Symphony, the concepts “Ensembles” and “Workspace” overlaps with the idea of “Themes”.

I will be hopping on a call soon with Allen from Symphony to hammer out some of the questions you have brought up, but in the meantime please take a look at the thread they have going on for some more insight from their Symphony experts :)

Great theme, and congrats about prize. I have a question, which hosting company do you use for demo, not every hosting supports XSLT?

I’m sorry but I cannot tell you that, that’s top secret. :) I’m kidding, but I refuse to publicly promote any hosting company. Thanks for understanding.
