Really hoping that some Classifieds themes are in the works, as well as Directories. What would be great would be a combination Directory and Classifieds – business listings as well as user submitted items for sale.

Hi, we’re currently trying to add the multi-vendor facility to the products & services tab so that user can directly sell their items and directly receive the funds:

some customers gave us good ideas so we’re evaluating them

Great look forward to that … the ability to add multiple products from multiple vendors to a cart I assume. Would be great if one can also turn the cart into an inquiry cart (i.e. disable pricing) for multiple vendors

good news :) we just purchased the woo product vendor plugin which allows multi-vendor and apparently it’s compatible so we just need to make some debugging due to collateral effects and then we should be set, buyers will be happy about it we kept receiving so many requests

as for the cart into an inquiry cart can you please explain what you mean ? thanks

With Woocommerce multivendor you add products to cart and on checkout each vendor is sent an email notification of the purchase specific to them (i.e. you wont see what the client ordered from other vendors).

Now imagine your vendors are not buying the product directly from the site but would like to “make an inquiry or submit a quote request (RFQ)” instead as if its a purchase. So the client goes through the site adding items to inquiry/quote cart and on checkout the vendors are each sent an “inquiry/quote request” instead of order specific to them.

Changes I foresee with this may include:

  • Changing “Add to Cart” button to “Add to inquiry”/”Add to RFQ”
  • Removing Cart totals and/or pricing

Complete understood if functionality will not immediately available in first release (can’t please everybody) but perhaps at least enable admin to disable prices for products going into the cart.

Here is some free market research (I’m in the business for a directory theme lol):

1) Enter a postcode/zip code and ‘within X miles’ and return a directory list <- Very important!

2) ‘Providers’ can create a listing with recurring payments

3) ‘Customers’ can create a profile to contact ‘Providers’, again with recurring or one-off payments

Practical applications and demo’s that can use this structure:

“Find a nanny” – Search for a nanny within 10 miles of your nominated postcode. Said nanny (provider) pays a recurring fee to have her listing available. Families (customers) can find nannies and can only contact them once they pay the recurring fee.

Likewise for “Find a babysitter” – Search for babysitters that will travel to your home by entering your nominated postcode. The babysitter pays the recurring fee, the parents pay the recurring fee to get in contact with said babysitter.

Similar usage cases for cleaners/coaches/tutors/etc etc etc.

sorry for the delay, I briefly discussed it with the dev, we would need to rediscuss it more in details so would you mind following up directly via PM or on the comment section of glocal / metrodir) the idea of having an inquiry cart is interesting, the only thing is we can’t really make custom changes to the existing woo-commerce plugin because it might have collateral effects during updates but we’ll try to see if there’s any other altnerative solution, if you have any plugins to recommend feel free to inform us)

thanks UOU

Thanks UOU for your reponse. Will contact via PM or glocal/metrodir comments should I come across a solution that seems to not have collateral effects you note (good point by the way).

Been hunting for a good classified/directory theme for a while now so forgive the length of this post. Just wanted to share a some thoughts on what I believe a good number of buyers would be looking for in a classified/directory theme.

Demo + configuration: ?Pretty sure I’m not the only one to fall in luv with a theme demo, buy it and then be greeted by a blank page on installation. Then spend hours/days/weeks trying to get it just like the demo. Then also find that it will cost just as much if not more than the theme itself to get the configuration in the demo which takes the author all of minutes to load. So please do include configuration as part of package otherwise I am among those that will mark you down for this or mark up for plug and play functionality.

Payments: Consider that not all countries/clients have access to Paypal. Solutions should also support off-line payment (generating invoice and/or reference number) and/or support a wider array of payments i.e. Payfast,2Checkout,Stripe, etc at no additional exorbitant add on charge. Investigate dominant 1/2 payment gateways across Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa.

Submission and listings management for the client: should all be on the front end with no WP admin bar on top once client logs in (screams amateur hour to me if I see it). Perhaps your front end could also allow clients to sort and filter their submissions in addition to normal CRUD functionality and pagination. Belive premiumpress and spotfinder do quite a good job with listing admins for clients.

Google Maps integration with geolocation listings are obligatory in my book. This should function well for listings searches and submission.

Listings review: The ability of reviewers to ?review on more than one aspect of a listing e.g speed, quality of service, knowledge or support etc would be a plus.

Admin back end: A visual page builder for home, search results, listing detail pages and client profile pages is a deal winner. The ability to control listings packages for either individual or membership packages down to the number of listings and category charges combined with listing expiry is a clear deal winner.

UX/UI I think enginethemes is one of the best in overall UI appearance terms I have come across. Responsiveness goes without saying but please do test this on different platforms please please. Not just on screenfly or similar tools but the actual devices themselves. So many times I’ve found themes not living up to the expectations of the beautiful mockups. Spacing of text, images etc for a clean look is good but in moderation lets remember the whole point of listings/directories is to convey as much necessary listing information as quickly as possible and not just showcase huge pictures. I don’t see why half a page needs to be taken up by a large main menu or listings need a full page for a picture (may make sense in real estate but for a car portal you would not necessarily expect clients to always have high res full page type pics nor want a full screen view). If viewed on a mobile and it can behave like a native App that’s a clear deal winner. Positioning+highlighting of CTAs needs to be well considered i.e. what is the visitor to a listing profile or listing supposed to do once he or she lands on the page. I have strangely come across pages were the CTA are just in normal text? or below the fold or I have to guess what next to do. In responsive designs also consider where the telephone or other contact information is shifted to. I personally don’t want to scroll past tonnes of space or a huge image just to get to the number/email address i.e. my action after reading listing info. Consider using collapsible accordion style instead of tabs for additional info on listings pages. Tends to work better come time to respond to different screen sizes. Modals popups are not bad idea on desktop or tablet screens provided the screen scrolls up automatically to it. If it doesn’t then it becomes annoying to scroll up to hunt it down. For this reason it can be even more annoying on smaller phone screens. Basic and advanced listings filter: different categories with different specs

Monetization: This be the whole point of directory/classified themes so I believe this should be the solid base around which the design and other functional elements are built. Key deal clinchers include The ability to place banner or adwords ads throughout the site and how this can be controlled (on search results pages, category and sub-category levels for example). Maybe even how clients can order banners in addition to ?the feature listings. Ability to control listings through individual ad submission or membership packages with add ons for feature listing or how long listings will last.

Apologies for the long post just had to get this out there. :chuckle:

Just to add to the UI/UX/Monetization rant above :chuckle: I all too often found a common gap in directory or classified themes on TF is what information is displayed in search results (list).

I guess it depends on what type of listings the site has but I find it frustrating to not see important product/business info displayed in search results with a clear CTA to make my search easier (call me lazy :-) ). Having key summary info immediately available has the benefit of one less click the user has to make to find what they want and increases the chances they convert (whatever that may mean in your context). Dunno about you guyz but this is a no brainer because less frustrated-happier users = more engagement/conversation = more sales = more money in my book.

For starters each line of product results may have:
  • Product Image
  • Single or multiple Prices (optional)
  • Vendor/Seller-image/logo
  • Short Item description
  • Location
  • Distance of user from product/vendor/seller Location
  • Product ratings+certifications/reviews or verification badges
  • Availability i.e. for e-commerce/rental type sites
  • All important CTA “buy-now/contact-now button + add to favorites and/or email/telephone info”

How one cleverly fits this all in without making the UI look cluttered is the challenge. But as an example check out the product search results on any PC product on Bestbuy with some but not all features above (not the best example but useful to show what I mean). Also AitThemes – TourOperator theme on TF seems to be well on its way on some of the search results points I mention above.

Perhaps this is one area where the competition entrants can differentiate themselves and/or be niche focused i.e. search results for Hotel-BnB Booking/Restaurant/Cars/Medical Specialists/Equipment Manufacturers/other niches

BTW if you have a directory/classified theme also consider how search results display for companies or products would differ to each other. i.e. how different is a company search results page to a product search results page or how do you combine the two.

Lastly, generally I believe most online directory/classified users are now well trained (subconsciously) to look for CTAs on the right hand side of your page by default. I find it personally a bit confusing to scroll through a huge picture, tonne of text only to find a contact form right at the bottom. Thus in my opinion the top right hand should be reserved for CTA i.e. info like vendor/seller logo or profile pic+contact info+contact form (good if form fields can also be modified+not a pop-up).

Am I alone in these observations and frustrations?
