Ok I have a very existential question :). Is coding xhtml/css makes you a web designer or web developer?

It is not clear to me the definition of Web Designer and Web Developer. Is a Web Designer do only layout design or also codes xhtml/css ?

I know this is the most important question ever !!!

Cheers !

I’m sure everyone has their own definition, but I think to be a developer you need to know more of the backend aspects (django, php, asp, mysql, etc…). In that respect I consider myself a Designer/Developer

So I guess to answer your question if you strictly work in the frontend and code XHTML /CSS you’re a “Web Designer”

The word “develop” does not specify any type of programming in relation to web type content. Web Development covers many aspects of creating and developing a website including things like html/css, seo, hosting, etc.

Most programmers will say a Web Developer also knows and uses programming but the true definition doesn’t specify that. Programmers just don’t like other people being able to call themselves Web Developers. :)

Edit: I should also point out that most people that work only with html, css and javascript call themselves Front End Developers.
