Hi,

I know for a fact that some HTML template authors do partherships with other TF members – WP or ecommerce developers who code version of their template for a specific platform. Afterwards the revenue gets split.

Would any of you like to share how that has worked out? Is it strictly speaking legal? Were there any legal documents involved? How do you protect yourselves form the other party not paying up?

Thanks.

Trust. If he doesn’t pay you, fill in a DMCA and you take his item down.

It is worked out really well.. I’m only doing development work and all my partners do design.. It works well if you are a good developer and don’t want to loose time learning design. Anyway, you won’t get too good at both, so it’s better to split tasks.

Is it strictly speaking legal?

Why not? I can’t think of absolutely no reason for this to not be legal..

Were there any legal documents involved?

Nope, no legal documents involved.. Just trust.

I’m doing the payments :D

Well this is a question which is in my mind, too. Do you buy an extended license and that´s it? Or do you pay the designer a fee? How do you split it?

Thank you for your answers

You need to negociate a deal with the designer/developer – an extended license does not allow you to re-sell that item :)

Hello FinalDestiny, do you have an example of DMCA you ever signed off? Thanks.
