I thought Facebook was started to find old friends – not necessarily to make miilion new friends? :D

We all have something in common here that most of our “old friends” don’t have. I see no harm here. It is a very good thing to communicate with talented people from all over the world…not just on business level, you learn and grow from it.

whats the point?? surely the whole definition of “friends” are people you actually know and socialize with, not just a meaningless number so you can fool yourself you have loads of friends

Yes, it depends a lot what is your approach on the facebooks “friends” feature. For some, “friends”, means a list of people to which are close and they know. For others is a big, general, group name where they add people with the same interests as they have. :)
