I think we authors can maintain signature and it can be displayed somewhere (Possible after comments) – this would be a very hand promotion tool.

You can simply write few lines of javascript to do this, and install it using Greasemonkey.

With Greasemonkey the changes you make are local, only you can see them so he would be promoting himself to himself – self-promotion

You got it wrong, you write Greasmonkey script for auto inserting img element at the end of your message ( where img would be your signature ).
