Hi,

Submitted my first theme yesterday, and got the rejection message today :(

The message was “This File Did Not Meet Our Criteria”. Still waiting on feedback from the reviewer but thought I would ask your opinions:

I have installed the theme at:

Thanks,

First of all, anyone who can do Wordpress themes deserves credit because it’s a skill thats hard to learn (or im just getting old)

As for your theme – to be honest with you it’s lacking some personality. You have alogo which is basically just a shape, there’s no depth or glamour there – it’s the details that really matter.

The 3 column part of the front page is actaully pretty good but there’s no calls to action on any of them. In fact there’s hardly any calls to action anywhere on the page??

You need to think about the visitors who come to your site. I know it’s fictional since it’s a template but what do you want them to do – buy your products and serices right? or maybe sign up for an app, or a product etc. Basically if it’s a corperate website then have some interaction in there.

The slider is fine but what is it showing other than images? Can you see now what I mean?

I’m pretty sure you’re close, although the reviewers could have been a tad more helpful but overall you just need to spend some time. Treat this as your own baby company or project and make it really fizzle. Right now it just looks like a skin for a basic company with no real directoins for the visitors.

Good luck mate, you’ll get there in the end I’m sure.

More attention to details. Looks nice but needs a bit more design touch. Right now it looks like a good base for theme or framework which is still not completely ready. What I think is needed – just a refinement.

Thanks for your feedback.

I’m just a bit stuck on where to go now. Having been working on it for a while, its hard to see which bits need to be improved.

I think the logo can be changed and can add a bit of “flair” to the main nav.

Any other ideas??

jeff, not sure what you meant by the slider??

Thanks,

Any particular bits or maybe some examples of where it could be improved?

Try decreasing the area behind the slider, it’s a little bigger than buyers like it to be. Also, the header background, experiment with different colours and experiment with different ways you can place the logo.

Also the footer, change the black to a lighter colour and make sure the glow is more feathered and transparent, it looks like it’s a .gif image atm :/

Anyway, enough of my criticism :D

Thanks, great help. I like criticism, can only make it better. Probably work on it in a couple of days, wait to see if kailoon gets back to me.

Anyone else want to chime in?

I am starting to see a trend of aspiring authors submitting generic themes.

OP, your design looks more like a wireframe. Needs alot of improvements and character to be accepted.

edit: Best advice I can give is look at the top selling themes and ask yourself is yours on par with them?
